STATUS UPDATE, COMMUNITY CARE AND OUTREACH, WAYS TO HELP

MONDAY, OCTOBER 7TH UPDATE BELOW

We want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for the outpouring of love, supplies, and prayers during this time. In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, we have been blessed beyond measure by the generosity of so many. Your support has been an incredible gift to our staff and to the community.

We have continued to have the incredible privilege of serving our neighbors by providing meals at the Spear Country Store. This effort has allowed us to share both physical and spiritual nourishment with those around us, and we are so grateful for the chance to be a light in this time of need.

Many of you have asked if there’s more you can do or if we need additional supplies. At this point, we are not in immediate need of more items, thanks to so many of you!! However, if you still feel called to help, we can do our best to connect you with local churches or distribution centers that are continuing relief efforts in the area.

We believe that there will be significant needs in the coming months and we are excited to share about how you can join with us to support the continued recovery of this area.

Through all of this, we have countless reasons to sing the words of the great hymn: Great is Thy Faithfulness. God’s provision and care have been evident in every step of this process.

We were also extremely excited to participate in a special community worship service Sunday night. It was a beautiful opportunity to come together, praise the Lord for His goodness, and find rest in His unwavering love and faithfulness. We were encouraged by joining with our neighbors in lifting up His name and celebrating the way He continues to guide us and care for us.

Thank you for standing with us in prayer and support. Please continue to pray for the recovery in Plumtree and across Western North Carolina. We will be sure to keep you updated!

September 30th Update:

TVR CHRISTIAN CAMP & RETREAT CENTER

STATUS UPDATE, COMMUNITY CARE AND OUTREACH, WAYS TO HELP

Hey from Plumtree! We’re so incredibly blessed by the out-pouring of love, support and prayers on our behalf, as well as the deep desire being shown by so many of you to help us minister and serve our devastated community!

As you’ve likely seen and read about the serious conditions in our area, we’d like to give you an update as to what the current situation is at camp, our immediate area (roughly 5-8 mile radius) and our efforts in our communities.

*Relative to so many around us, camp has been largely unscathed.  We have some flooding and/or damage in the gym, single guys house, Pio cabin, roads, etc.

*We have some generators and are using them sparingly in an attempt to preserve food in our walk-in cooler and freezer as well as in some dwellings

*Propane, which enables our generators, is extremely precious but limited. We are on a list with our supplier but it is uncertain as to when they will be able to get to us.

*We have limited communication abilities. We’re using a borrowed Starlink system to get out and receive messages for a few hours daily

*We’re blessed to be able to house, clothe and feed some locals who have suffered tremendous loss. As well, we’re encouraging folks to come and use our bathrooms, showers and Starlink in order to contact concerned family and friends

*A tremendous blessing has been the ability to partner with the amazing folks at a local grocery, convenience store and restaurant, Spear Grocery & Grill, as well as several local entities in order to coordinate food, aid and materials as needed. Together, we were able to serve 300+ meals today (Sept. 30) and preparing for up to 600 tomorrow; praise the Lord! So, so many folks in our community are working tirelessly for their neighbors, providing equipment, care and services. Again, amazing thing to witness!

*Most all roads are not safe for travel

Lastly, so many of you have asked how you can help, for which we are eternally grateful! Unfortunately, at least for the next few days, the physical access to us will remain extremely limited and perilous. While we will certainly need supplies and manpower in the near future, our most immediate needs are for the ability to continue to pursue and purchase food in order to continue our efforts to be ‘hands and feet’ in and through this trying situation.  For those of you who are wondering or have already asked, we have several ways to financially support the efforts here:
